Manchester city centre has a number of very standard business-class hotels near the town hall. These do singles or doubles at fixed rates, about £24-50 per night per room. Breakfast costs extra, about £7 per person. These are reliable but dull.

One thing to be aware of is that Manchester city centre is noisy on a Saturday night: you might like to ask for a room away from the street, if possible.
